Fixed Price Repairs

We operate a callout service to all Bristol postcodes. For callouts to premises over 10 miles away, a fee of 40 pence per mile will be charged for each additional mile. Callout distances are calculated using Google Maps driving directions.

Terms and Conditions

  • All work carried out subject to the cost of any necessary hardware or software.
  • A minimum charge of 1 hour applies to all onsite support undertaken.
  • A minimum charge of 30 minutes applies to all remote support undertaken and includes time taken to establish a remote connection.
  • SMG Computers does not accept any liability for data or software which is lost, corrupted, deleted, stolen or altered during repair. The customer accepts full responsibility for Customer software and data and SMG Computers are not required to advise or remind the customer of appropriate backup and other procedures
  • During the repair every effort will have been made to minimise data loss and retain personal information; however due to the nature of certain repairs this is not always possible. You may therefore find that certain personal / downloaded data previously stored on the computer is no longer accessible. It may be necessary to restore your date from your personal backups.
  • Customer shall back up all data stored in the products to be repaired and remove any removable media, such as diskettes, CDs, DVDs or PC Cards before submitting the products for repair or replacement.

Payment Methods

There are several convenient ways to pay your bill.

Payment Type Details
Cash Cash payments must be provided upon return of your computer or once an onsite visit is completed. Please provide the exact amount as we don't carry a cash float and are unable to provide change
Cheque Cheques must be provided upon return of your computer or once an onsite visit is completed. Please make cheques payable to "SMG Computers"
Credit or Debit CardPaypal Credit/Debit Card payments are taken using our secure Stripe gateway. Credit/Debit Card payments are taken prior to returning your computer
Bank Transfer [BACS] BACS payments can be made over the counter at your bank or through internet banking. We ask that BACS payments are made prior to returning your computer. Bank account details are included on the invoice

Preparing For An Appointment

To help us work quickly and efficiently, please read the following before the appointment:

  • Laptops and Netbooks - If we are repairing a laptop or netbook, please have the power adapter to hand.
  • Software and License Codes - For software related issues, please provide any installation media you may have, as it maybe necessary to reinstall the software on your machine. This includes recovery discs that came with the computer and driver/installation discs for your software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Sage/Quickbooks/accounts packages). If you are unable to find your installation discs, don't panic. We have a large collection of installation files for software such as Windows and Microsoft Office. Try and have any product licenses/keys and activation codes to hand. If the technician needs to reinstall any software, these activation codes may be required.
  • Usernames and Passwords - If you have any passwords for your windows user accounts, you can either notify us of the passwords or clear them prior to the appointment. Alternatively, we can clear the password as a last resort, should you prefer not to tell us. Without the password we are unable to logon to your computer which may delay the turnaround times and prevent us from testing or repairing your machine.

* No Fix/Diagnosis = No Fee

  • SMG Computers offer a "no-fix-no-fee" policy on all computer repairs.
  • If a problem cannot be fixed or diagnosed, you won't be charged.
  • If, having spent time diagnosing the computer, discovering a replacement part is required but can no longer be obtained or the parts are no longer manufactured, a diagnostic fee will be charged.
  • If, having spent time diagnosing the computer, the customer decides not to go ahead with a repair once a diagnosis/quote has been made, a diagnostic fee will be charged.

Our Warranty

  • All repairs carried out by SMG Computers are warranted, unless specified.
  • All brand new hardware supplied by SMG Computers comes with 12 months manufacturer's warranty.
  • All hardware supplied by SMG Computers is brand new, unless specified on the invoice or requested by the customer.
  • All LCD Screen Replacements come with a 90 day warranty - this is a standard warranty issued by most screen suppliers/manufacturers.
  • All completed repairs are covered by a 30-day return-to-base labour warranty, commencing from the date on the original invoice.
  • If the original problem occurs within 30 days, the technician will fix the problem free of charge (subject to the cost of any additional parts required).
  • The warranty excludes computer faults caused by physical damage, software issues, malware, end user errors and any other circumstance outside of SMG Computers's control.

Service Types

Onsite Support - A technician will visit your home or office at a prearranged day and time. Our appointments are booked in hourly slots; This means you know exactly when we will arrive and don't need to wait in all day. Where possible, the work will be carried out onsite. In some cases, it is necessary to return the computer to the office to carry out the repair. This could be due to replacement parts being required, time restraints or complexity of the job.

Remote Support - If you are experiencing software problems and still have a working internet connection, we can securely login over the internet and repair your computer. Our easy to use and secure remote support tool provides instant access, as though we were sitting infront of your computer!
